SYMBOLS WE USE
OUR SIGIL
A sigil is a unique emblem created to embody a particular intention, desire, or purpose. Often formed by combining letters, symbols, or images, sigils are used in ritual, meditation, and visualisation as focal points for concentrating and directing personal energy.
Our sigil interlocks the two stylised vowels (A and U) in the band’s name, which is pronounced “magus.” The Roman-inspired, stone-carved appearance uses angular uppercase forms, with the traditional V shape representing U. Together, the letters also form Au (from the Latin name aurum), the chemical symbol for gold. This connection leads naturally into the Sun/Gold symbol that follows.
SUN / GOLD
This in-house design represents the Sun in astrology and both the Sun and gold in alchemy. The Sun embodies vitality, confidence, leadership, and personal power – the energy that drives growth and gives life. The foundation of its modern symbol first appeared during the Middle Ages, representing joy, the awakened mind, and the conscious pursuit of reason over instinct.
In alchemy, gold signifies transformation, perfection, and the highest spiritual attainment. Closely associated with the Sun, it represents the divine essence within all things and the union of the physical and spiritual. The symbol invites us to pursue self-discovery, wisdom, and the hidden potential within ourselves.
ARIES
The first astrological sign, Aries is associated with courage, energy, and initiative. Arians are bold, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy taking the lead and throwing themselves into new challenges. Their confidence and competitive spirit give them the drive to turn ideas into action.
Direct and spontaneous, Arians rarely hesitate to say what they think or pursue what they want. Their impatience can occasionally lead them to act before considering the consequences, but their optimism and resilience help them recover quickly. Loyal and passionate, they bring excitement and momentum wherever they go.
TAURUS
The second astrological sign, Taurus is associated with stability, practicality, and sensuality. Taureans are grounded, determined individuals who value security and approach life with patience and persistence. Their strong work ethic helps them make steady progress towards their goals.
They also have a deep appreciation for beauty, comfort, and life’s pleasures, often creating warm and harmonious surroundings. Their determination is a great strength, although it can sometimes become stubbornness when they are reluctant to change course.
LEO
The fifth astrological sign, Leo is associated with confidence, leadership, and creativity. Leos are charismatic individuals who naturally attract attention and often thrive at the centre of social occasions. Ambitious and determined, they pursue their goals with energy and conviction.
Creativity is a defining Leo trait, with many drawn to artistic pursuits and opportunities for self-expression. Despite enjoying the spotlight, Leos are also warm, generous, and fiercely loyal. They make supportive friends who readily encourage and inspire those around them.
SCORPIO
The eighth astrological sign, Scorpio is associated with intensity, passion, and emotional depth. Scorpios possess a magnetic, mysterious quality and approach life with determination and focus. Resourceful and tenacious, they are prepared to confront challenges and emerge stronger from them.
Highly intuitive and perceptive, Scorpios are skilled at uncovering hidden truths and looking beneath the surface. They value trust and loyalty but can be guarded about their own feelings. Their willingness to embrace change gives them a remarkable capacity for reinvention and personal growth.
AQUARIUS
The eleventh astrological sign, Aquarius is associated with originality, intellect, and humanitarianism. Aquarians are independent, progressive thinkers who enjoy challenging convention and exploring new ideas. Their analytical minds and unconventional perspectives often make them natural problem-solvers and visionaries.
Driven by a strong sense of social justice, Aquarians value equality and want to make a positive difference in the world. Although fiercely independent, they also cherish friendships with people who share their curiosity, ideals, and appetite for lively discussion.
THE EYES
Last but by no means least are The Eyes. These are extracted from a larger original picture drawn for the band by artist Natalia Wallwork. The eyes were ‘extracted’ and used in this form with Natalia’s permission and blessing. The green hue used throughout the bands artwork/symbology, and this website, is based on colouring in the eyes.
Natalia is not only a gifted artist, she is also a great photographer. She lives in Costa Rica with her husband, Graham, who is also a gifted artist and flamenco guitar player.
